About Phil
Phil has spent over 20 years working with high-income professionals on disability insurance and income protection. He's the one clients actually talk to, and he's built his practice around understanding the specific risks each profession carries and matching them to contract language that holds up when it matters. He knows the carriers, he knows the underwriting, and he doesn't waste anyone's time with generic recommendations.
Phil handles the advisory side of the agency: case design, carrier selection, policy structuring, and the ongoing client relationships that keep coverage aligned as careers evolve, working closely with Jack Howard on matching coverage to each professional's income profile and with Chawna Dill on case processing and policy service. If you're working with Seaworthy Insurance, there's a good chance Phil is the one walking you through your options and explaining why the details in paragraph four of your contract matter more than the premium on page one.
He studied business in college, but the entrepreneurial instinct was already there. He grew up in Wisconsin, moved to California at 10, and has carried that midwestern directness with him ever since. Before settling into insurance, Phil played in a touring band, which is probably where he developed the ability to read a room, adapt on the fly, and stay composed when things don't go according to plan. Skills that translate surprisingly well to working through carrier underwriting departments.
Outside of work, Phil is a serious music lover. He still plays, still goes to shows, and can talk about it longer than most people can talk about anything. He's also a go-to for client conversations that need patience, persistence, and someone who actually listens before he speaks.
What Phil helps clients do
Phil handles case design, carrier selection, and policy structuring, the parts of the process where the right decision depends on reading a specific person's situation against a specific carrier's contract. He works with physicians and high-income professionals to match occupation risk to the coverage that holds up at claim time, then stays with the relationship as careers and income change. If you have an existing policy, he can also read it against the current market and tell you where it is strong and where it leaves a gap.
How Phil reads a policy
Phil starts with the definition of disability, because that is the clause most disability claims turn on, then works through the residual and partial-benefit language that determines whether a policy pays when income drops without a full stop. Price comes last, after the contract is understood, since two policies at the same premium can carry very different guarantees. That order is the same one behind the agency carrier rankings, and it is why a good advisor matters more than a cheap quote, a point covered in how to choose an advisor.
Licensing
Phil is individually licensed as an insurance producer in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, which lets him work with clients wherever they practice.
